Radiocarbon dating and theories.....

Comparing structure and amount of plants in the VMS, I discovered it looks most like the Ashole 1462, which fits with the Carbon Dating:

Researchers at the University of Arizona used the radiocarbon dating method on the 246 pages written in Europe by and found that the parchment was made between 1404 and 1438, said Walter Koehler, an ORF producer who oversaw the TV documentary on the manuscript.

This dus not tell us however, how old the information in the VMS is. (Some) pages might/must be copied from older work. ( A zodiac with 10 months must be dated before 700 BC and the fact the herbal pages seem to have 2 alphabetical rows of plants, might point out that plants were added to older knowledge that was available in other work).

Anyway… with all this in mind, what is the real state of play for Voynich research as of now?

Firstly, striking through most of the list of Voynich theories, it seems that we can bid a fond farewell to:

•Dee & Kelley as hoaxers (yes, Dee might have owned it… but he didn’t make it)

•Both Roger Bacon (far too early) and Francis Bacon (far too late)

•Knights Templars (far too early) and Rosicrucians (far too late)

•Post-Columbus dating, such as Leonell Strong’s Anthony Askham theory (sorry, GC)

It also seems that my own favoured candidate Antonio Averlino (”Filarete”) is out of the running (at least, in his misadventures in Sforza Milan 1450-1465), though admittedly by only a whisker (radiocarbon-wise, that is).

The Voynich manuscript is not a hoax and not so mysterious anymore.

After 25 years of research my translations and explanations show it truly is a 'Census of the past'.

The voyage of a man named Rici in the year 1089, towards the other side of the world,

where the sun does not shine.

In the Voynich manuscript was a note: the Ricci census of past.
So, the book must tell us something about what happened or has been seen in the past.

The Voynich manuscript was written by a man named de Rici. He got the order to sail towards the other side of the world, to the part where the sun does not shine. He uses the stars to navigate his ship towards this area and arriving here he discovers the sun does shine here and even that there is land. In the Codex Turpinus we can read that the galaxy rises from the ”Northsea” , extends over Europe and after Spain disappears into the ocean.

In early times the helmsman kept the basket/outlookpost/crowsnest in a line of sight with a star and thus "steared" towards the star.

The post has the shape of a basket and in Dutch we call a basket a mand, as the Rici does.

Here you see a MAND with an arrow, pointing towards the direction heading. And that explains why the stars are drawn in baskets.

                        In an old book, with the months of the year I found the constellation Gemini/Twins as a man and woman embracing each other. They are in love and "friends".

In the VMS we see a man and a woman holding hands.

That is why in the VMS the constellation is called AMIA(S) (friends).

   Why are they nude ?
I found an other old book, in it part of the people reptesenting star constellations are nude. I think the VMS is much older and in early times all constellations were drawn as a nude person. IF this was common practice the VMS is not "weird" at all. We just don't know why. My theorie is in the book.

In the herbal of Aldrovandi we do not find many words. He only tells which part of a plant is "Chimitteran" and if it grows in sand or at rocky places. I think originally the VMS was the same. It had only few or perhaps no words at all. Students had to "learn" the plants and then could make a link with the roots at the Jars pages. These pages are different from the herbal pages, here you also find information about the roots and the Jars.

The best drawing of the Voynich manuscript (I think) is the world map, with importent places of the world. From the rings at the sides there is a "pointing" towards the center, being the center of the world. The orthodox shaped towers look like the towers at the Kremlin, but Moskou is hard to sail and I never saw a map where it was the center of the world. I think it is the church of Maria Magdalena in Jerusalem.

The corner left down we see a map of Constatinopel, with mount Ida.

Your web page caught my eye, most particularly because of your analysis of the images vs. similar drawings in other medieval manuscripts.
Common sense often prevails where elaborate cryptanalysis fails, and this seems like a prime example. Among other things I am a book reviewer, the science columnist for the SyFy Channel (formerly SciFi Channel) here in America, and a correspondent for WIRED magazine. I'm planning to write an article on the VMS this autumn, and it looks to me like you've gotten farther at interpreting it than anyone else has.

I'm writing my Major Research Paper for my English Composition class on the Voynich Manuscript and the controversy surrounding it. I do speak German,

and I'm skilled with some languages, so I was able to recognize that your translations make complete sense. I just sometimes have a difficult time

making out the letters in the VMS, so I was planning on writing out an alphabet in order to aide me.

I've never believed the VMS to be a hoax, and the mystery has always excited me. I haven't been excited this much about many other things.

About your translation of the Voynich text. Have you consulted the work by Scylax (some call it pseudo-Scylax).

PS 'the basket' is an old constellation, which is not in the classical version of the heavens.

Western monks saw a cross in Corvus, and used it to time their hours of prayer at night. Our 'southern cross', or crux is not visible in the Mediterranean, although it seems to have been known to Dante, who speaks of seeing 'four holy stars'. In the Voynich the four, as a cross, are shown marking the direction for South in folio 67v.

	In an old book, with the months of the year I found the constellation Gemini/Twins as a man and woman embracing each other. They are in love and "friends". In the VMS we see a man and a woman holding hands. That is why in the VMS the constellation is called AMIA(S) (friends).
	Why are they nude ? I found an other old book, in it part of the people reptesenting star constellations are nude. I think the VMS is much older and in early times all constellations were drawn as a nude person. IF this was common practice the VMS is not "weird" at all. We just don't know why. My theorie is in the book.

In the herbal of Aldrovandi we do not find many words. He only tells which part of a plant is "Chimitteran" and if it grows in sand or at rocky places. I think originally the VMS was the same. It had only few or perhaps no words at all. Students had to "learn" the plants and then could make a link with the roots at the Jars pages. These pages are different from the herbal pages, here you also find information about the roots and the Jars. The "spaces" at the herbal pages Rici used to write down his position(s).

The best drawing of the Voynich manuscript (I think) is the world map, with importent places of the world. From the rings at the sides there is a "pointing" towards the center, being the center of the world. The orthodox shaped towers look like the towers at the Kremlin, but Moskou is hard to sail and I never saw a map where it was the center of the world. I think it is the church of Maria Magdalena in Jerusalem. The corner left down we see a map of Constatinopel, with mount Ida. Where the medieval castle stands, I reveal in my book (as many other things)

Your web page caught my eye, most particularly because of your analysis of the images vs. similar drawings in other medieval manuscripts. Common sense often prevails where elaborate cryptanalysis fails, and this seems like a prime example. I'm writing my Major Research Paper for my English Composition class on the Voynich Manuscript and the controversy surrounding it. I do speak German, and I'm skilled with some languages, so I was able to recognize that your translations make complete sense. I just sometimes have a difficult time making out the letters in the VMS, so I was planning on writing out an alphabet in order to aide me. About your translation of the Voynich text. Have you consulted the work by Scylax (some call it pseudo-Scylax). PS 'the basket' is an old constellation, which is not in the classical version of the heavens. Western monks saw a cross in Corvus, and used it to time their hours of prayer at night. Our 'southern cross', or crux is not visible in the Mediterranean, although it seems to have been known to Dante, who speaks of seeing 'four holy stars'. In the Voynich the four, as a cross, are shown marking the direction for South in folio 67v. Diane O'Donovan
